JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of quality ready mixed concrete to our customers. Concrete Mixer Operators are under the direct supervision of Plant Managers.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
All Mixer Operators must follow company policies, procedures, and management’s instructions.
- Having read and understood the Employee Handbook.
- Clocking into work at your appointed time, ready to start your shift with proper personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance when reporting to work and throughout the day. A professional appearance means a set of pants and shirt that are clean, without stains, wrinkle-free, and are tucked in.
- Performing pre-trip inspection of truck in accordance with DOT and Company regulations. This is to include checking fluids such as oil and antifreeze, tire pressures, and lights. Report any maintenance issues to your Plant Manager before getting loaded.
- Daily cleaning is required. Mixer driver is required to keep his vehicle clean inside the cab, inside the drum, and on the exterior using proper wash down procedures. Mixer driver is responsible for keeping the outside free of concrete build-up.
- Perform a visual walk-around inspection of the outer perimeter of the vehicle during pre-loading and post-loading events and clear away any material or debris that may be present.
- Checking delivery ticket for extra products. Load and secure extra products onto mixer truck for delivery to customer.
- Support and assist maintenance personnel with any required repairs on trucks, plants, etc. as needed.
- Overseeing the loading of the mixer truck with raw materials while ensuring that the drum is mixing properly and at the correct speed.
- Ensuring that the water tanks are filled on the truck during daily operations.
- Ensure that air pressure is off the brakes while driving the vehicle.
- Climbing the ladder to check the slump. Mixer Operator is responsible for communicating their observations and suggestions regarding the quality of the concrete to their Plant Manager prior to leaving the plant yard. Once the mixer truck leaves the plant, the Mixer Operator has taken responsibility for the concrete.
- Verify directions and have a safe driving plan prior to leaving the plant.
- Communicating with your Plant Manager as to when you are on the job, pouring out, washing up, returning to plant, and back on the plant yard.
- Mixer Operator must immediately notify their plant manager if they have any concrete leftover.
- Making proper adjustments to the concrete slump at the jobsite, safely maneuvering the mixer truck to the point of discharge, and documenting all notes on the delivery tickets.
- Upon completion of a pour, the Mixer Operator will use the contractor-appointed wash down pit or Company provided wash down box/bag to clean the outside and inside of the mixer truck.
- Using metal forms to make concrete blocks with leftover concrete.
- Making notes on all delivery tickets and turning them into Plant Manager upon completion of delivery.
- Maintain proper Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) levels.
- Completing pre-trip inspections, post-trip inspections, and Driver’s Daily Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR). The Mixer Operator’s DVIR must be submitted daily.
- Receiving cash, checks, or other documentation of payment from COD customers and immediately transferring those to the Plant Manager.
- Ensuring the truck’s fuel tank is filled at the end of the day, every day.
- Assist in the housekeeping and orderly upkeep of plant facilities.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested, including but not limited to sweeping, shoveling, and assisting other departments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Department of Transportation certified CDL.
- Must be able to pass a federal Department of Transportation pre-employment drug screening.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Department of Transportation medical examination card.
- Must successfully pass all random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return to duty drug and alcohol testing.
- Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from Managers.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Operators are required to work Monday-Saturday and the Mixer Driver must be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time.
- Must be able to lift and carry 45 Lbs. concrete chutes multiple time per day.
- Must be able to climb 8 ladder steps to a height of 12 feet multiple times per day.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in all environmental, temperature, and weather conditions. Work day length varies, depending upon assignments and weather.
